Celebrating Father's Day with Sea Shanty entertainment

The Falmouth Hotel are proud sponsors of the International Sea Shanty Festival 14-16th June 2013.

The Festival celebrates its 10th year with 39 groups and 20 venues it promises to be a great weekend. The official opening takes place at 6.30PM on Events Square.

We are delighted to host  performances by the well known Falmouth Shout and  Tom Lewis, widely acknowledged as North America's finest exponent on nautical songs from 1PM on  Sunday 16th June.

Yacht Race And The Festival Of Words And Music

A total of more than 20 yachts will eventually arrive to port from the French town of Pornichet on the 5th/6th May.

For the three days the French yachts are in Fowey, the locals will offer the visitors a warm welcome.

May Day in Padstow is distinctive

First some history….

Although the origin is lost in the mystery of time it is believed to go back to the ancient Celtic nations.  Held annually on May Day (1 May), the day celebrates the coming of Summer and it is also associated to ancient rites of fertility.

The festival itself starts at midnight between 30th April and 1st May at the Golden Lion Inn. 

The town is dressed with greenery, flowers and flags.

  • For the Pudding:

225g of self raising flour (scant 2 cups)
1 level teaspoon of baking powder
2 ounces butter, cut into bits (1/4 cup)
150ml of milk (scant 2/3 cup)
1 pound of cooking apples
1 TBS Demerara sugar (turbinado sugar)
1/8 tsp of ground cinnamon or allspice

  • For the Syrup:

1 large unwaxed lemon
1 TBS golden syrup (could use honey)
a knob of butter
